How to find a suitable hosting environment for your OCP machines

A suitable hosting environment is very critical for your OCP machines. 

General considerations

  1. load bearing of the floor: can support weight of the rack with full machines
    • Rack
    • ESA Kit: ≈ 117 kg for 16OU 
    • Server (including SSD, CPU, RAM, Heatsink, NIC) ≈ 7.1 kg/server
    • PSU + Power shelf: ≈18 kg to supply to 16OU
    • Switch
    • Cables
  2. size and space: depends on racks chosen
    • Width: 19' or 21'
    • Height: ≈ 20 RU (20X44.45mm=889mm) for 16OU
    • Depth: >=880mm
    • Back of the cabinet: closed or opened (if use traditional cabinet) 
  3. power supply: three phase CEE plug (400v, 32A) preferable
    • Preferable three phase CEE plus (440v, 32A) 
    • 220v one phase is acceptable, verify Amp
  4. network: 1Gbps-10Gbps
  5. maximum KW can be assigned to one rack: >=5KW (depends on number of servers) 
    • One server ≈ 300W
  6. IPv4 IP address: 1-8 
  7. accessible for remote support: Provider can access the hosting place to plug Raspberry Pi to support remote maintenance in emergency case
  8. cooling and air conditioning: OCP server can running without cooling system if the temperature is <35 °C
